El Capitan clean install on new SSD Hi I searched clean install and found some useful information, but the threads are archived and I had a few more questions. I purchased an OWC Data Doubler for my Late 2011 15' MacBookPro and I would like to do a clean install of El Capitan onto the new SSD drive when it comes out at the end of the month. First, launch Disk Utility on your Mac. Next, choose the SSD disk and go to the Erase tab. Set name and choose the format – OS X Extended (Journaled), and Partition map are entered by default. Go to the App Store and download OS X El Capitan installation. Launch “Install OS X El Capitan” and follow the steps the installation program prompts. On the installing part, it just say 16 minutes remaining and nothing happened for 8 hours. And after that I decided to try the CNet tips. The backup was successfully done by SuperDuper but when I instal the SSD to my MBP and the El Capitan stucked on loading screen forever.

  • If the installer asks to unlock your disk, enter the password you use to log in to your Mac.
  • If the installer doesn't see your disk, or it says that it can't install on your computer or volume, you might need to erase your disk first.
  • If the installer offers you the choice between installing on Macintosh HD or Macintosh HD - Data, choose Macintosh HD.
  • Allow installation to complete without putting your Mac to sleep or closing its lid. Your Mac might restart and show a progress bar several times, and the screen might be empty for minutes at a time.

After installation is complete, your Mac might restart to a setup assistant. If you're selling, trading in, or giving away your Mac, press Command-Q to quit the assistant without completing setup. Then click Shut Down. When the new owner starts up the Mac, they can use their own information to complete setup.
